Registration procedures to act as an importer are a onetime process, but renewal may be required as per the terms and conditions of such foreign trade office of a country. In most of the countries, the information on such registration for importer – exporter is linked with customs location and reserve bank, as process of imports and exports are online digitalized. Shardul Dafle : i have a query regarding importing of goods this is the first time , i ordered stone coated roof tiles online from Alibaba website , from china for value of Usd$ 4332 The freight cost included on (DDU to india) shipping cost +Clearance + inland cost+ Extra cost was $ 1450 Now the goods have reached Mumbai port and the agent is asking me to pay duty/ stamp duty / vat charges Which all put together come to roughly Rs 95000/- ( roughly $1300) so i would be spending nearly usd 2800($1450 + $1300= $ 2800) for the goods of $ 4432 to reach India The question is this normal , more than 50% of the value of goods
