Air Waybill - A nonnegotiable instrument of domestic and international air transport that functions as a bill of lading.

Ancillary Staff - People who provide necessary support to the primary activities and work of an organization, e.g: schools, hospitals.

 

Andean Community (CAN) - The Andean Community or Comunidad Andina de Naciones in Spanish (CAN) is made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It is a series of bodies and institutions that work to bring Andean subregional integration, promote external projection, and reinforce the actions connected with the process.

 

Andean Pact - A regional trade pact that includes Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.

 

Angel Investor: An individual or group of individuals willing to invest in an unproven but well-researched e-business idea.

 

Annual report: The yearly report made by a company at the close of the fiscal year, stating the company's receipts and disbursements, assets and liabilities.

 

Annual growth factor:  A percentage by which sales and cost of sales (COS) will increase over a one-year period

 

Annuity - Often used to provide a pension. An annuity is a fixed regular payment payed over a number of years to a person during their lifetime.

 

Annuity :A contract in which a person pays a lump-sum premium to an insurance company and in return receives periodic payments, usually yearly, often beginning on retirement.

 

Annuity:It is a payment made to the insured annually. When an insured under a life policy elects to receive the payment from the life insurance company at a specified rate through out his life or for some fixed number of years, the sum of money (i.e. stated yearly sum) thus received annually instead of a lump amount is known as an annuity.

 

ANSI / ANSI :The American National Standards Institute is the American standardization body. It publishes American standards and informs companies about the standards in force in the United States.

 

Antedated Check:This is a check, which bears a back date i.e. a date earlier than that on this it is drawn. For example, a check is drawn on the 10th of July 2000 but if the date is written as the 1st of July 2000, then it will be called an Antedated Check.

 

Antediluvian - An interesting and humorous metaphorical description of something (for example a product or service or concept) that is obsolete, old-fashioned or primitive, or devised a long time ago. 'Ante' is Latin for 'before', and 'diluvian' is from Latin 'diluvium' meaning 'deluge', so the overall literal meaning is 'before the flood', being the biblical flood and Noah's Ark, etc. Antediluvian is therefore a clever way to say that something is (so old as to be) 'out of the Ark'.

Anti-dumping Laws - Laws that are enacted to prevent dumping - offering prices in the overseas market that is lower than that at which a product is sold in its home domestic market.

 

Antitrust:Relating to legislative initiatives aimed at protecting trade and commerce from monopolistic business practices that restrict or eliminate competition.

 

Appellant - A person appealing to a higher court against a decision of a lower court or other decision-making body.

 

Appellate Body (AB) - The Appellate Body is a World Trade Organization (WTO) entity, which was established in 1995 under Article 7 of the Understanding on Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes (DSU). Its purpose is to hear appeals and reports issued by panels in disputes between WTO members. It is composed of a standing body of 7 people and has the power to uphold, modify, or reverse the legal findings and conclusions of a panel. These rulings must be accepted by the parties of the dispute. The Appellate Body has its seat in Geneva, Switzerland.

 

Appellate Tribunal: It is one of the income Tax Authorities to whom an assessee if dissatisfied by the order of an Appellate Asst. Commissioner, may seek relief against that order (assessment).
