Update on 18th May, 2017: GST rates for goods

 

NIL GST RATE;

1. Lac and Shellac [GST HSN chapter code 1301]

 

5% GST RATE;

1. GST HSN chapter code 1301 Natural gums, resins, gumresins and oleoresins (for example, balsams), other than lac and shellac.

2. Compounded asafoetida commonly known as heeng [GST HSN chapter code 1301]

3. Guar meal or guar gum refined split [GST HSN chapter code 1302]

 

18% GST RATE;

All goods not specified elsewhere

1. GST HSN chapter code 1302 Vegetable saps and extracts; pectic substances, pectinates and pectates; agar-agar and other mucilages and thickeners, whether or not modified, derived from vegetable products; other than Guar meal or guar gum refined split.

Goods and Service Tax (GST) rate tariff in India is designed in 6 categories of goods and services.  Four main GST rate slabs framed with Essential goods and services, Standard goods and services and luxury goods and services with 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% respectively.  Commonly used Goods and Services at 5%, Standard Goods and Services fall under 1st slab at 12%, Standard Goods and Services fall under 2nd Slab at 18% and Special category of Goods and Services including luxury - 28%.   The most essential goods and services attract nil rate of GST under Exempted Categories.     Luxury goods and services and certain specific goods and services   attract additional cess than 28% GST.

GST rates in India is being finalized within a couple of months, as Goods and Service Tax is being implemented from July 01,2017 in India.   The tariff rate of GST to be imposed on various products is also finalized soon.  The GST rates are imposed in India under 4 slabs.  Each category of slabs is being declared soon by the GST authorities.   The GST tariff slabs fall under this category  are Gum Arabic, Other Natural Gum, Resins, Gum-resins, Balsams,   veg saps and extracts, pectates etc. agar-agar etc., Opium, Saps and Extracts of Liquor ice,  Sap and Extracts of Hops,  Saps and Extracts of Pyrethrum or of the Roots Containing Rotenone,  Other Vegetable Saps and Extracts,  Pectin Substances, Pectinates And Pectates, agar –agar, Mucilage and Thickeners Derived from Locust Bean, Locust Bean Seeds or Guar Seeds,  Other Mucilage and Thickeners Derived from Vegetable Products

In India, GST for sale of resins, gums and lacs is expected to be charged.  Special consideration on exemption of tax is provided by government for agriculture and farming.
