Messenger fee USD 30.00 to pay the security fee of USD 2.00 ?

Messenger fee USD 30.00 to pay the security fee of USD 2.00

Some of the reputed carriers like EVERGREEN hold container at port of discharge because of their reason ‘not paid security fee of USD 2.00’. The container will be at the port till settling the said charges of USD 2.00 to them. This has been continuously happening against the shipments under door delivery, against which carrier already collected door delivery charges. This is ridiculous. The container has been booked at load port by paying all necessary inland door delivery charges. The said nominal charges could have collected at the time of paying door delivery charges or as ‘reserve’.

Now let us discuss the process to pay these nominal charges. Normally the import containers to be door delivered holds at terminal due to non payment of security fee of US Dollar two. The importer need to send a check for USD 2.00 through a messenger by paying USD 30.00 overnight. Once after realizing the payment, the carrier release container. If the importer is in New York and Terminal is in Los Angeles, it may get delayed further. If delayed, demurrage again on the head of importer.

In many situations, I could personally experience this hassles. My containers held up at port many times due to the said reason, and could pay exorbitant charges of demurrage etc. Although you had paid total door delivery charges at port of loading, be alert, you need to sort out this type of hassles overnight, otherwise the container may held up at port and demurrage may be fallen. Have you already experienced this type of hassles? Discuss.
