rajendra: We have developed a Hemo Dialysis Equipment, a first by an Indian company . Our design office is in Bengaluru and contract manufacturing facility at Mysore. The product is now under pilot production and going for commercial production some time in May. I was going thru one of your articles on custom duty exemptions for medical products and thought you would help in sharing some of our concerns We are currently importing some critical components for our product build . These include Blood pump Solenoid valves Gear pumps Piston pumps Blood sensor Air bubble sensor Filters Raw material for Hydraulic components 10" Tablets Pressure sensors The above parts attract customs duty from 7.5% to 10% with an additional cess of 10%. This automatically escalates the cost by a significant margin. I understand there is a possibility of exempting these components from basic customs duty if they are used in manufacturing of life saving equipment like "Dialysis Machine". However , we do not have authentic information or confirmation regarding this. Could you help in answering following queries? 1 First and foremost - is there a provision to exempt customs duty fully or partially for components used in manufacturing of Life saving medical equipment? 2 If all parts are not exempted , what are the parts covered in the list? 3 Since we are are first company to locally manufacture this equipment, can we include all these parts in the exempt list? 4 If policy exists, what is the procedure to avail this duty exemption? These are very critical issues to be addressed for moving into local manufacturing and to offer a Dialysis Machine at an affordable cost to the Indian Market Please let me know your inputs Thanks and looking forward to your quick response
